I am just reading my original post and i see that I have already done that -->touched the necessary files like dhcp.bfe0,hostname.bfe0,notrouter. removed any host entries from /etc/hosts and /etc/inet/ipnodes, made sure that /etc/nodename has the hostname in it. <-- I did try sys-unconfig and I had an unresponsive system.
