I think longriver is a good way to improve solaris nic hardware coverage.
However, there are still quite a few hardware not supported by neither
native driver nor 3rd part driver. Here are several examples,
J2585B HP 10/100VG PCI LAN Adapter

SK-9872 Gigabit Ethernet Server Adapter (SK-NET GE-ZX dual link)
88E8055 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller

Actually, the list is quite long. Therefore, new driver still need to be
written
as well as integrated the existing 3rd driver into solaris. That is the
part
I would like to try umd.

therefore improve the adoption of solaris.
As explained, the way to increase NIC driver coverage is straightly to
integrate those available drivers, but not to duplicate efforts.
Running in use mode will affect the performance. However,
user mode driver focuses on function instead of extreme performance.
Its main purpose is to enable developers and users to access network.
Technically, you may talk to WiFi team to know about the progress of
porting NDIS wrapper to Solaris. I don't think we need to do anything
new by the same way we've done.
