There is *NOTHING* on the wire that identifies interfaces by name.
Nothing at all.  No protocol knows or cares about this.  Renaming the
interfaces doesn't seem like a plausible answer.

Finding out why it behaves differently sounds like an important first
step.

There's nothing in Solaris 10 that allows renaming of network
interfaces.

Snv83 is one of the OpenSolaris Nevada builds.  The previous poster
mentioned it because this list is intended for discussing networking
in OpenSolaris.  Solaris 10 isn't OpenSolaris, and questions about
Solaris 10 should be directed to your local Sun support folks instead.
