I think Dan was trying to tell you that you should *NOT* have a /8
prefix on that interface.  It makes no sense.

It sounds like you're using a driver that doesn't support the IP
Instances ioctls, and you don't have the latest kernel with
Clearview's GLDv3/DLPI shim layer support.

Since you're apparently using Indiana, I *strongly* recommend that you
contact them.  Indiana is just a project.  It hasn't gone through
reviews yet, nor has it integrated into OpenSolaris.  Anyone using
those experimental bits should be in direct contact with the Indiana
project team: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

All networking interfaces on Solaris support (and must support) DLPI.
I don't think that's the problem.  I think you've got problems with
your kernel or your zones configuration.
