Hi all,

(if I write to bad alias, let me know please).

I have quite a strange problem with Opensolaris 2008.05 LiveCD - when I use
it as a LiveCD, my network is working without any problem (nwam is enabled),
but when I install the LiveCD image on my harddrive, network is not working
regardless I use nwam or switch to static wired network ("physical").

My HW setup is:

AMD Athlon FX64 x2, 2Gb RAM, RealTek 1Gb LAN (integrated on a motherboard)

The problem is the name resolution. I am able to ping any internal or
external IP address (on my LAN or behind my DSL modem/FW). I tried to
disable "nwamd" and switch to "physical" (as I am using just wired
connection) with static IP - with the same result, ping is still working,
name resolution not. What is even more strange, I have found out that name
resolution works but just for a very short time after "svcadm restart
network/physical:default" is performed (I have tried name resolution with
"nslookup mail.yahoo.com"). I have never been able to perform "nslookup
mail.yahoo.com" successfully more then once (so the first "nslookup"
resolved ip address of mail.yahoo.com, second did not).

I have also tried network admin GUI with similar results - in the GUI it
looks like the "default gateway device" is not set. Well, when I set
"default gateway device" to "rge0" which is my network device, and run
"nslookup mail.yahoo.com" it works (once). When I shutdown network admin GUI
and open it again, "default gateway device" field is empty again (it is
simply forgotten after 2-3 seconds)

I have bought new machine just for OpenSolaris, so I'd like to make it
running ;) .. do you have any idea what I could try? Is there some other
daemon related to nwam that keeps resetting the default gateway device to
empty string (or to non-existent device)?

Regards,

Michal
