This integration occurred weeks ago, but since build 98 is just now
available, now is as good a time as any to point out this networking
related change in OpenSolaris.

The integration of the following in build 98:

PSARC 2008/473 Fine-Grained Privileges for Datalink Administration
http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/arc/caselog/2008/473/

allows unprivileged users to use most of the dladm show-* subcommands.
You can now use show-link, show-linkprop, show-phys, show-vlan, and
show-aggr as a regular unprivileged user in the global zone. The PSARC
materials contain more detail on the change.

A follow-up integration by Sowmini Varhadan and the WiFi driver team to
re-work how WiFi properties are handled will also leverage this change
to allow show-wifi as an unprivileged user.

In essence, while this work has benefits for the user of the dladm
command, it's also a building block for other UIs such as the upcoming
NWAM Phase 1 GUI. Because of this change, the GUI will be able to
report on networking status without needing to communicate with an
intermediary process with elevated privileges.

Enjoy,
-Seb
