I'm not completely sure, but I think I was just bit by this bug on my x4500

I put in the workarounds referenced at 
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6432894 
(MSIEnable=0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0; in /etc/system and e1000g_dma_type=3 in 
kernel/drv/e1000g.conf) and so far the system has run for 22 hours without 
falling off the network.

I can't find any documentation on what these magic incantations actually do, so 
your mileage may vary.

MSI appears to be something about interrupt routing on multiprocessor systems, 
according to Intel's page.
