Agreed. I believe that this was introduced to support IPv6 over ATM, which is described in PSARC 1999/446 and 2001/023 [1]. AFAIK, the only driver that ever supported this was Sun's ATM driver, which was EOL'ed by PSARC 2006/272. -Seb [1] FWIW, I just sifted through the materials for both 1999/446 and 2001/023, and changed both of their exposures to "open".
