If you have two different subnets connected, then you need a solution based on routing and/or some kind of clustering software. In either case the administration and set up is somewhat non-trivial, and will probably require configuration of daemons, and possibly (in the case of the routing software) coordination with external parties. (Outbound route set up is easy, but making the inbound routes failover will require the routers on the other side of your links to properly handle the loss of a route.)
