I'm all in favor of EOFing older closed drivers provided there is room to integrate newer variants in the future. One of the areas where Solaris suffers a bit is in the variety of hardware it supports (both new and old). Admittedly, the cost of maintenance goes up over time due to the sheer number of supported devices, however at the very least, it gives some of us mere mortals work to do! Just my 0.02.
