Hi guys,

I'm having a really odd problem with name resolution on a brand new install of
OpenSolaris 2009.06. Basically nslookup works fine, but no other programs can
resolve names.

To quickly explain the setup: I don't have a DHCP server running on the test
network this is connected to, so I've manually configured the interface using
the GUI. It has a fixed IP address, a default gateway, and the DNS server is
also set to the gateway address as I have BIND running on that machine.

If I use nslookup, DNS names resolve fine. I can also ping IP addresses such
as google, so it appears my internet connection is working perfectly.

However, firefox has no internet access, and if I try to ping something like
google using the DNS name, it fails saying "unknown host". What gives?
Nslookup works fine, but nothing else can resolve names? I've checked
resolv.conf, and it has just a single line for the nameserver.

I'm really, really confused by this. Does anybody have any ideas?

thanks,

Ross
