Just a little update... There was always a possibility that my Macbook Pro's NIC that was at fault, not the server's. I tested this two ways today:
1. I directly connected my laptop to a friend's and ran Iperf. Performance was great both ways, hitting about 110MB/s. 2. If that was not enough, I booted the latest Ubuntu Live CD on my server and repeated the original test. Again, performance was flawless. These tests tell us that the hardware itself - both my laptop's NIC and the server's - are fine. It is a software issue. This was always my suspicion, but it's nice to have proof. Additionally, I had another go with Wireshark. Although the data transfer is on the sluggish side, there does not actually appear to be anything strange going on within the packet stream. Anyway, I have gone as far as I can go given my current skill level. I don't want to buy yet another server NIC as my current Intel Pro/1000 PT Desktop is certified according to the HCL and was indeed working perfectly before I upgraded. The latest tests demonstrate the hardware itself is sound. The best I can do is hope that the new distributions - whether OpenSolaris 2010.3 or Nexenta 3.0 Beta3/Pre1 - are released soon and they magically fix whatever the problem was. - Andrew -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ networking-discuss mailing list [email protected]
