I /think/ that all you have to do is reinstall the
linux-restricted-modules package if the problem is with ieee80211.
The advantage of this is that it will also put you back at the Ubuntu
version of the wireless driver and we can retest wpa_supplicant to
verify what it looks like now that this is not a driver issue.
