Hi, David--I am just about to do the same thing you
are doing: Install Mandrake 5.3. The Linux expert who is helping me
has a site on geocities where he has written instructions for burning a CD,
installing it, and also has two pdf documents of the Red Hat installation manual
which will work for Mandrake 5.3. He says Mandrake is just an updated,
user-friendly version of Red Hat 5.2, with a "cool" KDE
interface. This is where I would start. The manual is 400+ pages,
but he did a "2-Up" version, i.e., 2 pages of the manual on a single
page, and you can download and print either of them. Here is the link
(together with the author's comments):
You *really should* look at those PDF documents on my
website:
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Nebula/8746
because that's also a very good tutorial. (assuming you haven't already). It's over 400pgs and yep I've looked over most all of them. :-)

Good luck, and wish me the same!

Subject: [newbie] Need a good Book:HiCould someone recommend a good book for mandrake. It would be for someone totally new to Linux or Unix. It would be nice if it included installation and operation instruction. Thanks:David:
