[newbie] gcc + linking

What version of the gcc is with Linux mandrake 5.3 I have not upgraded it 
or anything. I just want to make sure it is the right one for upgrading my 
kernel.


Someone had said to make a link for the kernel to the kernel for Lilo. A 
symbolic link or something. How do you do that???
