[newbie] Video Card Problems

I currently have the Diamond Viper V550. It installs properally except when I go to run X Windows it crashes and freezes up or it freezes the processor. I know in windows I have to set the acceleration to 50% unlike 100%. I think X WINDOWS is trying to use 100% and therefore in turn crashed my p133 processor. Is there any way to fix this problem?
