I installed Star Office 5.1 as root using the './setup /net' command and it
worked fine. Then you go in as a 'normal' user and use './setup' and you
set it up for that specific user. That way if you have several people (you,
wife, kids, etc) all on one Linux box you only have to use a 'full' set up
once and then just do minimal user setups. Works fine. (Well, almost - I
can't get the spreadsheet template to start - but I think I goofed something
up.)

The FREE version of Star Office is a single-user license,
and as such is only available to the user who signed up and
downloaded the software. Don't know about WordPerfect or
anything like that. As for where to install it, I guess
that depends on you. I think SO wants to install under your
home directory, but I installed it to a secondary hard
drive where I had more space.
