Mandrake is compiled with the pgcc compiler. This means it's compiled with
pentium optimizations. I see about a 20% bump in speed on my 266mmx laptop.

Mandrake also has a more complete KDE install (and a current version out of
the box. RedHat has a beta version), I really like the inclusion of the utils
for laptops. The kernel is a newer version 2.2.9 compared to 2.2.5, but to
clarify an earlier post, all 2.2.x kernels prior to 2.2.10 had the DOS hole.
RedHat has an updated set of kernel packages on their ftp site as well.
