I saw a bit of discussion here on taking a screenshot.

My MDK 8.2 install loaded a program called gnome-panel-screenshot onto the
disk:

[paul@tbird paul]$ which gnome-panel-screenshot
/usr/bin/gnome-panel-screenshot

When I run it, a screenshot is made, and I get the choice to save it into a
file, save it to the desktop or print it.
Perhaps this is of help to you.

No need to run Gnome, as long as the gnome libs are installed, it'll run.
