Well, several

1.  Is your interface in set for CABLE SELECT position?  If so it is 
likely to fail
2.  Is DMA enabled for the drive?
3.  Are you set for -dao?  Many drives will not work in Disk-At-Once but 
are fine with Track-At-Once.
