ehh.. (as root, without the quotes, in a text console) 
"ifdown eth0" [enter] brings the network card eth0 offline
"ifconfig eth0 10.0.0.4"[enter] sets the ip to 10.0.0.4
"ifup eth0" [enter] brings the InterFace (netcard) back "on-line" with the 
new IP numbers
