You can try to install Java by opening the link below with Mozilla.I
believe it is the 1.3 JRE, but it works fine.

ftp://ftp.netscape.com/pub/netscape6/english/6.2/unix/linux22/xpi/jre.xpi

Depending on your installation you might need to run Mozilla as root.
