If you use webmin (https://localhost:10000) under the servers -> apache section, select the virtual server, then under 'Document Options', there is a generate directory listings option, just enable this. Save changes and restart apache. You can alter how the directory listings are generated by going into 'Directory Indexing' from the same place you selected 'Document Options'.
