Depends on your hardware. If you have a reasonably high-spec machine, Mandrake will do as well as any (my universioty has a number of servers running Mandrake 7.2). If it's an older machine you may want a lighter distro, or an earlier version of Mandrake (newer versions don't support i386/486.
