How do I install a software on Mandrake 9? I am a brand new user and I cannot figure out how to install any software or programs. I have a cd with slackware and other programs that I cannot install into Linux. I am getting frustrated, but I dont want to give up, so someone help me.
Thanks.

Forget your Slackware CD - if you've installed Mandrake, you must have a Mandrake CD (unless you did it with a net
installation, in which case you have a link to the server you installed it from. Your friend here is the Mandrake Control Centre. If you're running KDE, you should have an icon on your toolbar which looks like a moitor with a star on it and a spanner in front. Click that, then click "Software Management" , then "Install Software". You will then get a list of packages to install.

If you want to install packages that aren't on your CD (or Internet mirror), just downlaod them, then open a terminal. Login as root ("su") then move to the directory you dpwnloaded the file to. Type "urpmi your_downloaded_file.rpm". That should install your file and any other files which are necessary.

By the way, where are you from? I recognise "al-hassan" (as in Hassan and Hussein), but I've not seen the name "Jagne" before.

Sir Robin
