This is a very good guide, and a year into my learning process, I find I get more and more out of it every time I refer to it. It really is a good idea to get into the good habit of building rpms in your home directory, in userspace instead of as root. Many casual rpm builders build as root, and that is okay if you occasionally rebuild a src.rpm for yourself, but there are a lot of reasons why it is a bad habit. One reason is that if what you are building is already installed on your machine and the packager did not set the {buildroot} properly, it could screw up your installation. This is especialy important for base packages like glibc and X. If you decide to go this route, read carefully the section on setting up your build environment. I also wrote a tutorial, mostly for my own consumption for when 9.1 came out, about how to optimize a mandrake system for a particular architecture. It may help you understand how to set up the build environment in your home directory. http://cybercfo.gkmweb.com/mandrake_a_la_gentoo.pdf Happy building! - -- Greg -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQE+SjimwDpHP6GALAARApuDAJ99mmOZx4WYKhQ0htgbXUk6PygykACghfwk 6bQe9Rr0r83KBIYGVn1/XvM= =EHDG -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
