Then disabling your write permission is your alternative. That way you need not invoke nasty old tricksy root, my precious. (Sorry, Tolkien overload) $ chmod -w my_file_name This ensures no-one can write or erase the file. Usually i would use octal but in this instance this syntax is shorter. -- Michael
