Yes, during my install-woes I had to do some googling on the matter, and it seems that Radeons are well supported, but Rages aren't : one has to use XFree86-3.6 to get 3D accelerated support, XFree86-4.3 can do 2D only. Furthermore, the ATI page says that the UTAH-project is dormant.
