If you know the package names, you can probably extract them from the original 
packages.  I think the relevant command is cpio or something liek that, but I 
am not that familiar with it.

You have stumbled upon a reason why so many experts choose to config by hand 
editing the files and storing lots of info in comments about why certain 
things are set the way they are.
