1.) Make absolutely sure all your mixers are set to a higher volume. ALL
YOUR MIXERS. That means kmix, alsamixergui and any proprietary mixers.

2.) Open a term and run /usr/sbin/sndconfig

Reboot; check your mixers again, see if that works.
