Isaac - I guess I could help walk you through the process. Right now I'm
"running" (still a few minor issues) with the latest cooker, and I didn't
use a CD. After nuking an install of 9.1 (from 9.0) I had to revert to my
"care package" 9.0 CD. Still, I don't have the other (at least not physically)
CDs in the set, and I lack a burner. (My birthday was 6/13; if anyone wants
to wish me a happy birthday and send a cast-off, write back) :)

However, I do have a DSL connection, so I opt for either FTP or HD installs,
and that's how I've been doing things. I can and have downloaded the
other ISO CDs. I don't burn them; rather, I leave them in a convenient
place on the HD, and then "loop back" mount the CDs - for instance

# mount /tmp/mandrakecd1.iso /mnt/loop1 -o loop=/dev/loop1

(Ditto for other CDs)

Then I just point urpmi in the direction of the mounted "CD's" and presto
the thing thinks there are 3 CDs in the drive :). I can then elect to
install additional packages via rpmdrake or urpmi. I keep updated by
urpmi for the most part.

Tonight I elected to bring down nearly all of Cooker via fmirror. Once it
was obtained, I went into the images/ subdirectory and selected 'hd.img' and
wrote it (dd if=hd.img of=/dev/fd0) to a blank floppy. Apart from a few
permission glitches and the recurring sound issue, it went pretty much
without a hitch. Very easy to install. I just pointed the hd install to
the directory where cooker was stored.

The trick is getting the files - you can opt for the ISOs or you can just
download everything under i586/ . Everything of course is relative so
the path is important. Pick a mirror that's close to you. I would use
a stand alone client (ncftp) rather than downloading through mozilla or what-
ever you use.
