Thanks for all reactions. I finally got my internet working. I have to run mii-tool --advertise=10baseT-FD,10baseT-HD
After that I have to run dhclient, every time I boot up my computer. Is there a more elegant way to do this automatically? Or is there some misconfiguration (because I have to do this every time) When I run network setting in the Mandrake control center, I have to rerun mii-tool. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Rob van Dam Sent: vrijdag 9 augustus 2002 8:49 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [newbie] fix sis900 networkcard to 10 mbit I tried several settings with mii-tool. Mii-tool only works when I click on "make connection" in the Mandrake control center, in the time Mandrake is attempting to connect to internet. When I run mii-tool other times I get the message "no link" I managed one time to establish a connection with "mii-tool --force=10BaseT-FD etho" once. During this time I was also able to ping the ADSL modem (switch). The connection was gone after a short time. When I run ifconfig I get information about eth0 and eth0:9 -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Joeb Sent: zondag 6 juli 2003 5:22 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [newbie] fix sis900 networkcard to 10 mbit The reason I ask, is that I have a MB with a Sis900 ethernet that wouldn't work correctly with my 10mb hub. It turns out, though, that in my CMOS, it was set to 100mb. I changed it there and things have worked like a charm ever since. If it's not a CMOS thing for you, I know we've had problems at work with other ethernet adapters where duplexing was a problem. Evidently, we had cards trying to connect to switches in the wrong duplex mode, I believe it was a problem with the switches, although I don't remember all of the details. Finally, we've also had some marginal network cables that worked fine at 10mb or 100mb, but never auto-detect. Once replaced, things worked fine. Just some thoughts, although the simplest thing would be to not auto-detect and manually set it.
