this is gonna sound really weird, i can't explain it. my scroll mouse fully functions now and i have no idea why. i've played with the configuration to no end and couldn't get it to work. earlier today i had rebooted into ms-win to burn some photo cds, when i booted back into linux, the scroll wheel still didn't work except for being a button when pressed. a few hours later, a horrible thunderstorm swept through, our power went out, so of course the computer shut off instantly. when the power came back and i fired the box up, and at the prompts for it to fix the system from being shut down incorrectly, i told it to do so. i played around for a while, then opened up a web page, i rolled the scroll wheel and it worked! strange but true. oh well.
