All:

I have currently set up a Mandrake Linux partition on my Windows machine. In the Windows universe there are PostScript fonts licensed from Adobe for use as corporate fonts.

I believe that, since the Windows partition is inactive while Linux is running, the corporate licence allows me to also use these for Linux.

I have copied the *.pfb files from the C:\PSFONTS\ folder to /usr/X11R6/lib/linux/X11/fonts/Type1/ (from memory). I then launched DrakeFont, clicked the Advanced button, and used the Add dialogue to build a list of these PS fonts. Then I clicked the Install List button and waited while DrakeFont called various utilities and 'installed' the fonts.

However, when I clicked the List Fonts button, they did not appear on the list, nor do they appear in the Fonts menu of any application. (I clicked all the checkboxes to install for AbiWord, etc.)

I also have pfaedit on Linux, a font designer and editor, and am able to successfully open the fonts.

By the way, the *.pfb files are in the C:\PSFONTS\ folder but there are also *.pfm files with matching names in the c:\PSFONTS\pfm\ folder. I copies ALL these files to Linux and put them all in the same folder. The pfaedit program opens either the *.pfb or its equivalent *.pfm file and displays the same font.

A search with Google finds a number of documents that essentially tell me to install the fonts in the Type1/ folder and run the same utilities as FontDrake does.

So where did I go wrong?

Regards,
Hedley
