vi IS simple, as soon as you took the time to "learn" to work with it. It is really the fastest way to edit stuff :-) BUT, since you didn't ... have you tried GNU Nano ? The latest version can also colour your code, IF you configure it in. Something like ./configure --enable-colours. I know my kwrite also colours my code, but that's on slackware, and not on mandrake ... :-) Hope I helped ya out. Kind regards, Guilmot Mike
