Brian - are you using the original Doom or Doom2? Reason I'm asking is, there are several open-source Doom alternatives. I use Prboom to play Doom here, and it will work with Doom 1, Doom 2, and Ultimate Doom .wad files. I use WineX, but only as a last resort - to play games that I've been unable to find an open source resolution for. IMHO - you're always better off if you can run it "native" first.
