Brian - are you using the original Doom or Doom2? Reason I'm asking is, there
are several open-source Doom alternatives. I use Prboom to play Doom here,
and it will work with Doom 1, Doom 2, and Ultimate Doom .wad files.

I use WineX, but only as a last resort - to play games that I've been unable
to find an open source resolution for. IMHO - you're always better off if you
can run it "native" first.
