Hi Anne; I pasted a whole whack of a pile of stuff to compare for the viewing pleasure of the gurus to try to help Margot figure this out. AC97 is kind of misleading. It's a set of sound server codecs (compression decompression instructions) that work with the chipset to handle audio format files. They exist even in my SoundBlaster. There are also various "flavours" of AC97 instructions depending what year and what 'standard' the sound chip was designed in and for.
