Well, I managed to solve the only problem with my new laptop, and it was
too simple.

Here's a tip, folks - never plug in a mouse when you're installing Linux
on a laptop that has a touchpad. That was my whole problem. Turns out
that touchpads are detected by Mandrake as a standard PS/2 mouse.

You don't need to install or compile any driver modules, just do a
normal install.

Sometimes the answer is something so simple, you'd never even consider
it. Having a USB or other secondary mouse connected when starting the
install, means that Mandrake defaukts to that mouse, and never even
considers the touchpad. Go Figure !

Guess I outsmarted myself!
