Got the removed old flash plugin message, then installed successfully message. Opened Mozilla and went to a flash site--Flash6 works! I don't know if it was just luck, or if that lib was really the fix for my problem. If that lib was needed, why didn't the pkg manager catch it has a dependency? Oh, well--it worked, and I've filed this for future ref. e.
