Hi,

Just saw some good beginners books. One is called Red Hat Fast & Easy.
All of the desktop stuuf applies- although it's all shown with Gnome. It
includes screen shots for EVERY step, whether it's using a shell,
terminal, or Gnome. The stuff covered is basic, but it also covers a lot
of the questions being asked here.

For example:
Setting up a modem
setting up kppp for an internet connection
Setting up a sound card
Using Linuxconfig
Installing a program from scratch al the way up to placing it on the
panel menu's. The example program they use is Staroffice 5.1 :-)
Setting up a printer

The price for this book at a local store was $13.50

The second book I saw was Learning Linux Visually. If you've seen any of
their books, you know they are written for a complete novice. Since this
book includes Caldera1.3, there are a number of things that don't apply.
However, they cover most of the topics listed above using KDE. All of
their examples include screenshots too.

If you're brand new to inux, check these out.
