How can I allow a single normal user (me) to execute the shutdown command without changing the suid bit on the shutdown executable? This can obviously be done if I were using a display manager, but I don't.Why don't you use a poweroff command?

It's working by default for any ordinary user in my computer (and I have set security level to "standard" during installation). Just type:
poweroff
in your terminal and your Mandrake system should start shutting down.
