    Now run 'less /etc/lilo.conf'  and see if the running kernel 
has resume= in the append line. It needs to point to your /swap 
partition.  EG, (mine)

        label=262-0rc21tmb2
        root=/dev/hde6
        read-only
        optional
        vga=788
