this assumes you have put the iso image into your default dir set up in the basic config

Yep you guessed it , above is a delete.
Tying to do too much on my first day back.

I can't figure how to get the image to "tracks to write".

TIA

Best to use cdrecord,
In a terminal,
cdrecord -scanbus
scsibus1:
       1,0,0 100) 'PIONEER ' 'DVD-ROM DVD-116 ' '1.22' Removable CD-ROM
       1,1,0 101) 'MITSUMI ' 'CR-48X9TE ' '1.0C' Removable CD-ROM
to determin where your writer is, and then,

cdrecord -v speed=8 dev=0,1,0 -pad -data -eject -ignsize /pathto/<file>.iso

change,
dev=
speed=
to suit your requirements.

use -ignsize with care.
If it's a big iso file make sure you have enough room on media for it when written.
