Yeah, I've tried just about any manual edit of /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 that I can think
of. It would just go back to 800x600, if it worked at all. Tried all the different
i8xx (i810, i830, i85x, etc..) drivers listed in MCC. I tried installing the driver
provided by Intel (http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/linux/graphics.htm) but
then X wouldn't even start.

I read somewhere, on xfree86.org I think, that XFree 4.4.0 is supposed to have better
support for this chipset (sounds like older versions only use video modes that require
1mb or less of memory, even though my BIOS has set aside 8mb) and so I am going to
attempt to install and configure that today. If that doesn't work then there is
supposed to be a Summit driver that works
(http://www.xig.com/Pages/Atop/CardIndividualSupportSpec/OtherMfgrsIndiv/Intel-i855G-generic.html)
but I can't afford the $70 they want for it.

Hoping XFree 4.4.0 works, out of ideas if it does not. Thanks,

Job
