I have Mandrake 9.0, kernel 2.4.19, Linksys WPC11 ver3.1 and orinoco 0.13e.
Now the card is already recognized:(/var/log/messages

As a newbie to linux, I was told that the next step should be:
1 update also /etc/pcmcia/wireless.opts
2 update init script configuration file (which depends upon the distribution you have; mine is /etc/conf.d/net)

As for point 2, I don't know where I should do it in Mandrake 9.0?
ifup eth1 shows:
configuration for eth1 not found.

I have an access point running simple DHCP with no WEP protection. So I guess the configuration should be simple enough.

Another thing that worries me is the "session opend for user root" message in the system
log. If that implies only root user can use the connection, how do I enable other normal users
to use this wireless connection?
