When you create a user, that user normally is not active until you give him a password. With the standard security settings, you can not have an empty password. (This is what you would need to have an open account.)Hi I intstalled Mandrake 9.1 on a Dell Optiplex G1 PC, and discovered that if you add a user during installation, that is the only user who can login at startup. The same problem occurs for me when I create a user as root in Mandrake Control. How can I delete a user when I am the user and I login as the user I want to delete. It logically does not work, but I want an open login where any user can log in.
Anybody know how to reset my computer to get rid of this user or make it so I can login as root into the graphical interface. I can log into another virtual console (ctl/alt/fn for function key). The graphical virtual console is f7.

What you can try is to log in as root at one of the virtual consoles, and type "passwd <user name>" where <user name> is the name of the user that you have created for an open loogon. Then just hit enter when prompted for a password. I am not at my Linux box right now, so I can not test it. It will ether give you a blank password, or exit without changing the password. I don't know for sure. You can leave the other user in place.
In 9.2, you can set things up so that you have a user automaticly logged in to the GUI on boot. I would think you could do the same thing in 9.1. I don't know if this would do what you are after.
