Hi, A little background to myself:
I have been using Mandrake for over two years now (7.3 onwards), and am experienced in setting up awkward hardware (eg winmodems, parrallel port scanners). I am not a newbie, but not an expert either. I have recently switched from dial up to Tiscali Broadband (UK) and I cannot get the modem configured correctly. I have tried to get it working on Mandrake 9.1, 9.2 and now Mandrake 10. The modem is a Sagem Fast 800 E2T Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as I am using Windows more than is healthy for me! Many Thanks, Richard Mace Debug Information: How I set up the connection in Mandrake 10: Open Mandrake Control Center->Connection setup->Network & Internet->New Connection->ADSL Connection->Sagem USB Modem->United Kingdom->Tiscali UK->PPP over ATM (PPPoA)->Advanced->Enter the following information: First DNS Server = 212,74,112,66 Second DNS Server = 212,74,112,67 Account Login Password Virtual Path ID (VPI) = 0 Virtual Circuit ID (VCI) = 38 Encapsulation = PPPOA VC ->Start at boot = no->Restart Network->Connect now (fails) /var/log/messages output: [EMAIL PROTECTED] richard]# tail -f /var/log/messages Jul 17 05:05:45 localhost drakconnect[3082]: renamed file /etc/conf.modules to /etc/modules.conf Jul 17 05:05:45 localhost drakconnect[3082]: modified file /etc/modules.conf Jul 17 05:05:46 localhost drakconnect[3082]: to put in /etc/modules Jul 17 05:05:46 localhost drakconnect[3082]: modified file /etc/modules Jul 17 05:05:46 localhost drakconnect[3082]: to put in /etc/modprobe.preload intel-agp Jul 17 05:05:46 localhost drakconnect[3082]: modified file /etc/modprobe.preload Jul 17 05:05:46 localhost drakconnect[3082]: running: /sbin/generate-modprobe.conf Jul 17 05:05:47 localhost drakconnect[3082]: created file /etc/sysconfig/drakconnect Jul 17 05:06:00 localhost CROND[3224]: (mail) CMD (/usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/qrunner) Jul 17 05:06:15 localhost su(pam_unix)[3262]: session opened for user root by (uid=502) Jul 17 05:06:41 localhost drakconnect[3082]: launched command: /sbin/chkconfig --add internet Jul 17 05:06:41 localhost drakconnect[3082]: modified file /etc/sysconfig/network Jul 17 05:06:41 localhost drakconnect[3082]: writing host information to /etc/hosts Jul 17 05:06:41 localhost drakconnect[3082]: created file /etc/hosts Jul 17 05:06:41 localhost drakconnect[3082]: running: chkconfig --del tmdns Jul 17 05:06:41 localhost drakconnect[3082]: running: chkconfig --del zcip Jul 17 05:06:52 localhost drakconnect[3082]: running: /etc/rc.d/init.d/network restart Jul 17 05:06:53 localhost ifdown: RTNETLINK answers: No such device or address Jul 17 05:06:53 localhost network: Shutting down loopback interface: succeeded Jul 17 05:06:54 localhost network: Setting network parameters: succeeded Jul 17 05:06:54 localhost nmbd[2446]: [2004/07/17 05:06:54, 0] lib/interface.c:load_interfaces(195) Jul 17 05:06:54 localhost nmbd[2446]: ERROR: Could not determine network interfaces, you must use a interfaces config line Jul 17 05:06:54 localhost kernel: Disabled Privacy Extensions on device c035fe60(lo) Jul 17 05:06:54 localhost network: Bringing up loopback interface: succeeded Jul 17 05:07:00 localhost CROND[3496]: (mail) CMD (/usr/bin/python -S /var/lib/mailman/cron/qrunner) Jul 17 05:07:00 localhost CROND[3495]: (mail) MAIL (mailed 65 bytes of output but got status 0xffffffff ) Jul 17 05:07:04 localhost drakconnect[3082]: running: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/net_cnx_up & Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost kernel: CSLIP: code copyright 1989 Regents of the University of California Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost kernel: PPP generic driver version 2.4.2 Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost pppd[3504]: pppd 2.4.1 started by root, uid 0 Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost pppd[3504]: Using interface ppp0 Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost pppd[3504]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/pts/3 Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost pppd[3504]: Modem hangup Jul 17 05:07:05 localhost pppd[3504]: Connection terminated.
