Right now I am unable to use kde or any of its apps.

I appear to be getting the message that 'kdeinit' is either missing or dead.
I am able to use xfce4 but not kppp nor it would seem, wvdial. So no connecting to the internet at present.
(The wvdial thing is quitting with something to do with pppd? It gets right up to my ISP OK it would seem so my personal info is in the right place I believe.)

During my last session I installed QTCurve, a couple of session ago I installed nVidia for OpenGL.
Also during the last session I did urpmi kdelibs and kdebase after seeing a security bulletin from Mandrake.

Kdelibs seemed to go without a hitch but kdebase kept falling over trying to use rpms from both the 'thac' and norluc? sites so I removedmedia them and things seemed to go OK after that.
Posted the following on the kde site but no response to date so thought I would give the live wires here a call.

As posted:

But on shuting down and restarting the next day... plenty of bitching about kdeinit and of course no graphical interface for kde whatsoever.

I am able to use Linux via xfce4 and assume possibly gnome and others, without any graphical problems so can only surmise that I've messed up my updating kde somehow.

Anyone like to come onboard and help me through this?
I would like to repair so that I can learn rather than go the rescue disk way.
If I can be helped with wvdial I can respond through Linux but for now I have dual booted onto my WinMe disk to get this plea out.
I can see my Linux stuff from here if that is all that is required to get the relevant info out.

So, where do I start, school is in and I'm ready to learn.

SnapafunFrank
