Thanks a lot Chris, that was the info I was after. Stephan Binner eh!
He's the guy who wrote Konstruct. That's the way to get a definitive
answer! 

So what I need to do now is to rip out my try out version of KDE3.3.2 in
my home directory and reinstall it using Konstruct into /opt/

To do that it looks like I need to use the prefix entry in file
gar.conf.mk

Will try this out over the weekend.
