Open up a xterm(or what ever you prefer) su to root and type
[root]# kcontrol

System>Login Manager>Users>User Image Source

and select (User) or (User,Admin) apply settings and you should be
good to go.

The default was (Admin) on mine, and I got the same as you folks.
